Great Nights for Walkn.

Lovely Sunsets Too.

I've completed three five-milers in a row this week, not only because I've been filled with energy and effervescence (real effervescence; on Tuesday I was downright tangy), but because the temperature and air quality in London have been almost perfect.

Reasons - rain in the morning or afternoon and clean paths and airways in the evening.

In spite of how it looks, May 30th sunset was very colourful

Colourful evening, 9 PM, in The Village

Oh, and the sunsets have been lovely as well.

Get out there and put on miles and smiles.

Hockey and Hops.

Small Harvest in Harris Park.

I covered 5.5 miles the night before last while listening to an NHL Stanley Cup semi-final game and I noticed the hockey commentary influenced my pace. I marched along briskly as if I was heading toward the net with a puck on my stick. I 'stepped lively' to be sure.

Final results: Pittsburg wins; Harrison, no score.

On my way through Harris Park on the way home I stopped to look at small hop plants that were planted - under the cover of darkness, I believe, last spring - at the base of several light standards. Two plants survive, but they are struggling in my opinion, compared to the healthy batch I have in my backyard.

Lovely Five-Miler.

With Just a Titch of Drizzle.

I carried an umbrella last night and thought, "If it really starts to come down I'll head back home."

But rain didn't fall, just a bit of spittin', so I made good time on empty pathways to my 5-mile turn-around point, on Barclay's Flats, past Gibbons Park.

Walking and Running Go Together.

Smooth Sailing?

I suspect, now that I've started to run a bit, I will experience a sore muscle or two when I get up in the morning. But after last night's five-miler, which included a lot of easy jogging, not one little twinge (did I feel while making a pot of coffee this A.M.).

I'm hoping to finish May on a strong note, and we will see what we will see.

"So far, so good," I say

I run alone. No one travels as slow as me!

Though late, I stop for sunsets.

He Was WALKN How Many?

Master Dog Walker.

Cory is a master dog walker and recently had 13 dogs under his control, 12 on the leash and one in a cart behind his bike. As he left me in his dust I snapped a few shots because I had never seen such a large herd of obedient or compliant dogs.

My evening walks are not usually that exciting or entertaining unless I'm listening to an NHL Stanley Cup playoff game. I'm rooting for Ottawa and when they score I clap my hands or jump a bit - or hoot and holler - surprising other nearby walkers or runners who don't know I'm reacting to good news on my pocket radio.

"Daddy, what's that man doing?"

"I'm not sure, Honey. Let's just keep moving!"

With 22 mi. already covered, I end my week with a 5-miler tonight

I Am WALKN When?

Usually, After Supper and Coronation St.

Where? Harris Park. When? Fall, 2016.

My last post, "I Am WALKN Where?", was a complete success because someone actually attempted to answer the question based on a photograph supplied. 'Sonny Drysdale', aka Sonny, Sonny D., even Sonshine on a Rainy Day, recognized the trail upon which I travelled.

Today's question I have already answered. Evening walks currently suit my TV viewing habits, and Pat's as well. For example, while she watches The Voice I hightail it outta Dodge and burn some of the calories consumed while catching up on Tracey Barlow's hijinks, transmitted all the way from C. St. in the U.K to the room off our kitchen. Or, if the Toronto Blue Jays are playing, I grab my pocket-sized transistor radio and head for the hills. While I walk 4 - 5 miles, Jerry Howarth kindly talks me through the Jays' various demeanors and misdemeanors over 4 - 5 innings.

 Two five-milers in a row! Atlanta 4 - Jays 2 after 5 innings

I have covered 26.9 miles, on average, during the last 10 weeks

It's downhill to Greenway Park from here

I count 52 legs. So, that makes 2 humans and 12 dogs.

While WALKN I think back to my days as a marathoner.

Keep on WALKN, I say.

I Am WALKN Where?

First and Last Photos.

I walked 4.5 miles between 7:15 - 8:45 yesterday evening and, again, the temperature was perfect. Cool. Add in clear and fresh and life was good.

I only took nine photos while walk, walk, walkn.

Above is the first. Below is the last:

The River Trail is Dry!

In early May, during The Week of the Flood, Harris Park - and some points north and south - were knee deep in water from the rising Thames River. I more often walked around the River Trail rather than upon it.

Now that the water is lower and pathways are drier, and mostly dry, I can reach Gibbons Park without delay. And last night, my five-miler - under a mix of blue skies and clouds - was very pleasant. (Perfect temperature for a brisk walk).
